How does the quality setting affect file size?

Lossy formats like JPG and WebP discard fine detail as quality decreases, which shrinks the file. Dropping from maximum to a moderate quality often cuts size dramatically with little visible change, while very low settings save more space but introduce noticeable artifacts.

Is the compression lossless or lossy?

Saving to JPG or WebP at reduced quality is lossy, meaning some detail is permanently discarded in the exported copy. Your original file stays untouched on your device, so you can always re-export at a different setting.

Does my photo get uploaded so a server can compress it?
