Frequently asked questions

How is the aspect ratio handled when I resize?

By default the ratio is locked, so changing one dimension scales the other proportionally and the image never looks squashed. You can unlock it to enter independent width and height values when a layout requires exact, non-proportional dimensions.

Can I make an image larger, and will it stay sharp?

You can enter dimensions larger than the original, but enlarging cannot invent detail that was never captured. Upscaled images tend to look soft, so it is best to start from the highest-resolution source you have.

Does resizing smaller reduce my file size?

Yes, substantially. File size scales roughly with the number of pixels, so halving both dimensions removes around three quarters of the pixels and usually produces a much smaller file even at the same quality setting.
